How is Eyton Burrow different from a forest school?

Eyton Burrow isn't a school, and it isn't a forest school — we're something a bit different. Sessions run every Thursday, 9.30am-3pm at Upper Eyton Farm, Shropshire. Our community is home-educated and flexi-schooled children for a full day on the land. Parents are welcome to remain until their children feel settled in with us. Sessions run in six-week arcs, each one shaped by the season. Hands-on learning weaves with child-led exploration, shared food, stories and time outdoors on our working farm near Shrewsbury. If you're looking for an alternative approach, we'd love to welcome you for a trial session to see if it's the right fit.

How do sessions work?

We gather every Thursday, 9:30am until 3pm. We're a small community and every child is truly known, seen and supported. Rachel and Emma facilitate the sessions as a journey across the farm. Children move from the barns to the fields to the woodland every session, with the theme and learning of each 6-week arc gradually weaving itself through each activity.

How much does a session cost?

Trial sessions are £15 with parents staying throughout. Individual sessions are £39. Six-week block bookings are £33 per session. Contact Rachel for more information or to book.

Are you DBS checked and safeguarding trained?

Yes, we are both fully safeguarding trained, DBS checked and insured with risk assessments in place.

Can I stay with my child?

Our sessions are designed as a drop-off provision, where children quickly build trusting relationships with Rachel, Emma and the group, helping them feel confident and settled. We understand that this can be a big step for some children and families, so we offer a gradual, flexible transition tailored to each child. Parents are welcome to stay for the first few sessions if needed, and we also have on-site workspace available should you prefer to remain nearby while your child settles further.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Our teaching philosophy centres on child-led, person-centred learning woven together with thoughtful facilitation — we don't choose between structure and freedom, we weave them together.
